What is a "Friend"?

CAUTION: WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO READ IS NOT COMING FROM AN ANGRY OR FRUSTRATED WOMAN...AS I A WRITING THIS I HAVE A SMILE ON MY FACE AND A SPARKLE IN MY EYE...MY LIFE IS WONDERFUL AND I AM BLESSED TO HAVE THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS THAT I CHOOSE IN MY LIFE. MAY YOU ALWAYS HAVE AN ANGEL BY YOUR SIDE!
SO HERE GOES...
What is a friend...I have been thinking alot about this lately, so I looked it up for the correct definition.

1. A person whom one knows, likes, and trusts.
2. A person whom one knows; an acquaintance.
3. A person with whom one is allied in a struggle or cause; a comrade.
4. One who supports, sympathizes with, or patronizes a group, cause, or movement

WOW That is profound isn't it. In life people come and go, but when times are tough you know who your friends are! They are there in times of need. Blogging is difficult along with emails. You can't hear the persons voice or see their face for expressions.

Unless you KNOW me you will never know the journey I have been on in my life, whether it be with adoption, infertility, dealing with the death of our unborn baby or growing up in a bi-racial family. (My brother and I are very close and I love him to death. I wouldn't want any other brother then him! ) None of this journey would I ever want to change. They have made me the person I am today.

I love the phrase "People who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones" You really need to think about what you are saying about a person...WNY is a small world...you never know if you are talking about someone and that person know the person you are talking about.

I think the one thing that is bad about me is... When I am done with a "friend", I am done! I learned that from my mother growing up, when people weren't nice to us, because we were a Bi-Racial family..."hurt me or my family and I am DONE!" So therefore I would never judge anyone and their family decisions...because I HAVE BEEN THERE. We had to have very thick skin or we would have never survived as a family or grown up as well adjusted children then adults. The other thing is...if you are my friend you know I hold nothing back...like it or not...that is who I am. Maybe some people can't handle it and that is fine...let me know it is bothering you and I will make a mental note not to say it again. But don't lie about me!

There are people who come into our lives that we may not CHOOSE as "friends" but some common thread keeps you together as "friends." When things get tough you then really see who is your "friend" and who is not. I don't use the word "my friend" lightly, but I think for now...I know who my "friends" really are. I love you all! Thanks for being there when I needed you the most!
